What is Thyroid?

Thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland found at the base of your neck, just below your Adam's apple. This gland makes thyroid hormone that travels in your blood to all parts of your body. The thyroid hormone controls your body's metabolism in many ways, including how fast you burn calories and how fast your heart beats.

In hyperthyroidism, the thyroid gland is overactive. It produces too much of its hormone. Hyperthyroidism affects about 1 percent of women. It’s less common in men.

Excessive thyroid hormone production leads to symptoms such as:

  • Restlessness
  • Nervousness
  • Racing heart
  • Irritability
  • Increased sweating
  • Anxiety
  • Sleeplessness
  • Thin skin
  • Brittle hair and nails
  • Muscle weakness
  • Weight loss
  • Bulging eyes (in Graves’ disease), Etc

Hypothyroidism is the opposite of hyperthyroidism. The thyroid gland is underactive, and it can’t produce enough of its hormones.

Hypothyroidism is often caused by Hashimoto’s disease, surgery to remove the thyroid gland, or damage from radiation treatment. In the United States, it affects around 4.6 percent of people 12 years old and older. Most cases of hypothyroidism are mild.

Too little thyroid hormone production leads to symptoms such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Dry skin
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Memory problems
  • Constipation
  • Depression
  • Weight gain
  • Weakness
  • Slow heart rate
  • Sluggishness, Etc

Standard treatment for hypothyroidism involves daily use of the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine (Levo-T, Synthroid, others). This oral medication restores adequate hormone levels in blood.

In the standard treatment protocol which is available right now focus merely on reducing the thyroid hormone level in blood by supplying it from outside. So that we can see the normalcy in blood reports.

But in our treatment protocol we basically concentrate on treating the cause for the reduction of thyroid level in blood.By this protocol we observe the normalcy of thyroid hormone in blood report as well as there is considerable change in the symptoms too.As we are treating the cause,in due course we will try to withdraw the medicines also.
